Коуз, Рональд Гарри (1910-; американский экономист британского происхождения, один из основателей неоинституциональной экономики; в 1937 г. опубликовал статью "The Nature of The Firm", в которой обратил внимание на то, что экономическая теория никогда не пыталась и неспособна объяснить, почему существуют фирмы как организации; для объяснения природы фирмы Коуз предложил новый инструмент анализа — трансакционные затраты; статья опередила свое время и долгие годы не получала адекватной реакции экономического сообщества; в 1970-е гг. эти идеи были переосмыслены и послужили толчком к развитию новой институциональной экономической теории; в 1960 г. Р. Коуз опубликовал статью "The Problem of Social Costs", которая также стала знаменитой и легла в основу экономического анализа прав собственности; за разработку теории трансакционных затрат и прав собственности Коуз был удостоен Нобелевской премии в 1991 г.)
